- What is a Mini Lift?
- The definition of what makes a facelift into a mini-lift varies significantly from surgeon to surgeon nationwide. For most patients seeking a mini-lift, it typically means they don’t want a very noticeable change. For others, it means they are only interested in changing the jawline and neck while leaving the cheeks alone.
- What most surgeons would consider a mini-lift is very similar to what they explain to be a traditional facelift. In most cases, the surgeon will elect to utilize one of several SMAS-lifting or SMAS-plication techniques, possibly making a smaller incision, although this isn’t always the case. The cheek in most mini-lifts is typically not addressed, so the focus remains on the neck and jawline. This is also the case with most traditional facelifts. The majority of surgeons choose to limit their dissection during a mini-lift, which in turn gives the patient a more rapid recovery. The only issue to be aware of is that certain mini-facelifting techniques may not be very long lasting. The mini-lifts that tend to last years longer typically combine a deep plane lifting technique.
- Deep Plane Mini Lift
- As a subspecialist in primary and revision facelifting, Dr. Talei is able to perform a facelift using a host of different incisions and techniques. However, his experience has led him to utilize deep plane elevation and release techniques for nearly all of his primary and revision facelifts. These techniques are significantly more advanced, and they provide a more natural outcome along with a stunning and long-lasting result.
- The deep plane mini-lift, as performed by Dr. Talei, is meant to provide a rapid recovery for patients who cannot afford any significant recuperation period. This does not mean, however, that the results are not significant. The mini-lift uses shorter incisions than most traditional facelifts, which remain well hidden while leaving the sideburns and hairline fully intact.
The key to providing a fully rejuvenated and well-defined jawline and neck is to perform a deep plane release. This means that instead of just pulling the muscles tight with sutures, the surgeon releases the tethering points of the platysma/SMAS complex. The complex is then repositioned in order to more comprehensively and naturally rejuvenate the neck and face. Combining several advanced techniques, the mini-lift achieves incredible results by tightening the neck. This gives greater definition to the jawline and angle of the jaw. It completely rids the patient of jowls and jowling, which may have occurred over time. Depending on the type of neck, midline tightening techniques may also be added in order to enhance results.
